Restore Youthful Contouring and Definition with Cheek Augmentation
High cheekbones and youthful skin volume complement each other to create a youthful, "heart-shaped" face. Some of us lack these features altogether, or have lost volume in the cheeks with age, illness, significant weight fluctuation, or the onset of menopause. We frequently see patients who have a desire to add or restore volume to their cheekbones to complement their facial features and achieve a fuller facial profile. For these patients, Dr. Craig Foster performs cheek augmentation at his Manhattan practice, consistently providing beautiful, natural-looking results. The Cheek Augmentation Procedure
Cheek augmentation is commonly performed in conjunction with another facial cosmetic surgery procedure, such as a facelift, brow lift, rhinoplasty, or eyelid lift. When cheek augmentation is part of a comprehensive treatment plan, the implants can be placed through incisions created to achieve other enhancements. When performed on its own, the cheek implants will be placed through small incisions inside the mouth. Under general anesthesia, the tissues of the cheek will be lifted away from the bone to create a precise pocket to contain the implant. Once placed, the implant will be held in place by a bio-compatible post, and the incisions are closed with sutures. Following surgery, Dr. Foster will advise you to avoid strenuous activity for a couple of weeks, and be very careful of the sutures when brushing your teeth until healing is complete. When performed by a credentialed and reputable surgeon, complications are rare, and the results can provide patients with a dramatic, yet natural-looking aesthetic enhancement.
Candidates for Cheek Augmentation Surgery
Patients who have experienced significant volume loss in their cheeks for any reason are often candidates for augmentation. This treatment can also benefit patients who have a naturally narrow face or low cheekbones. Patients who are considering a facelift, brow lift, or other facial surgical procedure may wish to incorporate cheek augmentation for a more dramatic cosmetic enhancement. As with any surgical procedure, the best candidates are non-smokers, since nicotine can inhibit the body's natural ability to heal. The very best way to determine if you are a cheek augmentation candidate is to schedule a consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon.
Cheek Bone Implants
Cheek bone implants have been in use for more than 60 years, and when placed by a credentialed surgeon, they have proven to be a safe and effective way to enhance the shape of the face. They can be made from different synthetic materials that can be molded and shaped to complement a patient's unique facial structures. Some implants, such as those made from silicone, will not integrate with your body tissue, and can be easily removed in the future, if needed. Others, such as those made from hydroxyapatite, will fuse with the bone and become a part of the cheek structure. During a consultation, Dr. Foster can help you determine which kind is best for you.
