Achieve Smoother, Younger-looking Skin with Microdermabrasion
If you are concerned with improving the appearance of scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, consider microdermabrasion. This non-invasive, non-chemical therapy exfoliates the skin, significantly improving its look and texture. Dr. Craig Foster and our team can determine whether this treatment option is suitable to help you achieve younger, healthier-looking skin. What is Microdermabrasion?
While many over-the-counter products try to mimic the results of microdermabrasion, they fall short. This amazing procedure can only be performed in-office, with an advanced microdermabrasion machine that uses water, a mild abrasive, and a vacuum to remove a layer of dead skin cells so that the youthful, vibrant underlying layer of skin may be revealed.
What Can the Procedure Do?
From lightening scars and reducing the appearance of pores to erasing fine lines and wrinkles, microdermabrasion offers excellent results. The procedure also smooths rough areas on the skin, and it can lighten or eliminate age spots, which are actually areas of hyperpigmentation. As a bonus, after microdermabrasion, skincare products may be more effective, because they can more readily soak into the skin.
The Microdermabrasion Procedure
The microdermabrasion procedure is performed with a special machine and generally requires six treatments, scheduled a few weeks apart. Each treatment takes approximately a half hour, and you can immediately return to daily activities following your appointment. You will need to be cautious of being in the sun, because your newly revealed skin can easily burn. Plan to wear a mild sunscreen for a few days following the procedure.
During treatment, we will use a small wand to remove the outermost layer of skin on the face, which contains dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion can also be performed on the hands, chest, or any other area that shows signs of aging. Dr. Foster or a technician will adjust the microdermabrasion machine’s settings so that treatment is customized for your skin type and the results you want to achieve. Even patients with sensitive skin can undergo the procedure, and we will adjust the settings accordingly.
People who have extremely sensitive skin, rosacea, diabetes, acne, cold sores or herpes, sunburn, irritated or swollen skin, cuts and abrasions in the treatment area, or have had BOTOX® Cosmetic within three days should not undergo microdermabrasion. Also, those taking anticoagulant medications are typically not good candidates.
Complimentary Procedures
Once your face has new radiance from a microdermabrasion procedure, you might be interested in targeting deep creases around the eyes, nose, and mouth. These complimentary treatments can help you achieve even more comprehensive results. BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM™, and Radiesse® are three injectables that we offer. BOTOX® relaxes muscles that cause harsh facial creases, while JUVÉDERM™ adds fullness to the face and can plump lips or smooth fine wrinkles. Radiesse® is usually a good option for reducing marionette lines around the mouth and chin.
